The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) held its 41st Executive Board meeting in Nagoya City, Japan, today (16 October), bringing together its leadership and Board members to review preparations for the 5th Asian Para Games, discuss upcoming major events and assess progress on the organisation’s strategic priorities.
Held just two days before the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, the meeting provided an important opportunity for the APC Executive Board to review its ongoing work and strengthen collaboration towards the development of Para sport across Asia.
Opening the meeting, APC President Majid Rashed highlighted the significance of the upcoming Games and the collective efforts of the organisation, its member National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and the organisers in preparing for Asia’s biggest Para sporting event.

APC President Majid Rashed welcomed the Board members to Aichi-Nagoya and said:
“We are getting ready for yet another Asian Para Games, but this edition is particularly significant as, for the first time, we will have participation from all 45 NPCs.
“Japan already has a strong connection with the Paralympic Movement, having hosted the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, although they were held without spectators due to the pandemic. This time, Japanese fans will have the opportunity to witness Asia’s finest Para athletes competing in front of home crowds.
“Our athletes are at the heart of the Paralympic Movement, and these Games will also mark another important milestone as we introduce online voting for the APC Athletes’ Committee elections for the first time.
“I hope you enjoy the spirit of the Games, make the most of your stay in Japan and, above all, support our athletes as they prepare to compete on Asia’s biggest Para sport stage.”

A key focus of the meeting was the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, which will take place from 18 to 24 October, bringing together 2,700 athletes from 45 NPCs to compete across 18 sports.
With the Games just days away, preparations and the successful delivery of the continent’s flagship Para sporting event were central to the Board’s discussions.
The meeting also included an update on the APC Strategic Plan 2024–2027, reflecting the organisation’s continued commitment to strengthening its member NPCs, developing Para sport, empowering athletes and creating greater opportunities across the region.
Looking ahead, the Executive Board reviewed preparations and plans for several major events, including the 2027 APC Conference, Asian Awards and General Assembly, as well as the 2027 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Conference and General Assembly.

Future Games were also on the agenda, including the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, Phnom Penh 2029 Asian Youth Para Games and Doha 2030 Asian Para Games, highlighting the APC’s focus on the long-term development of the Paralympic Movement in Asia.
Governance and organisational matters formed another part of the meeting, with updates from APC Headquarters and a review of financial reports, including the audited financial report for 2025 and the financial report for 2026.
The Board also received reports from the APC Standing Committees, covering athletes’ representation, women in sport, Games and sports development, medical and sports science, and legal and ethics matters.
Updates from the APC’s five sub-regions: Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia, South East Asia and West Asia were also included, providing an opportunity to review ongoing activities and development initiatives across the continent. As the countdown to Aichi-Nagoya 2026 enters its final days, the APC remains focused on delivering successful Games while continuing to strengthen opportunities for athletes and NPCs across the region.
