APC PRESIDENT

Majid Rashed
President, Asian Paralympic Committee
PRESIDENT'S PROFILE
Majid started his athlete career in 1989, in both athletics and table tennis. He quickly moved from local and national level competitions to regional and international events.
After about ten years of experience as an elite para-athlete, Majid was asked to manage the UAE Athletics team at the 1998 Birmingham Athletics World Championships. Since then, he has led with success various teams at a number of national and international events, including in his role of Chef de Mission during the Athens 2004 & London 2012 Paralympic Games.
In addition to his vast sporting experience, Majid has always worked on improving his administrative skills, working closely with the UAE Disabled Sports Federation and the UAE NPC. He became Secretary General for these two organisations in 2008, then Vice-President in 2012. Majid is also CEO of the Dubai Club for the Disabled, a local organisation sponsored by the Dubai Sports Council supporting the rights of people with an impairment to play their developmental role in the community in sports, cultural and social fields.
In these various roles, Majid has gained a lot of experience in the media field both at the national and international level. He has participated in many radio, TV programmes, conferences and forum about raising awareness about sports for people with an impairment and the Paralympic movement, and is also the designated spokesperson of the UAE Disabled Sports Federation.
The combination of his experience as both an athlete and a leader in the administration of sports for people with an impairment served Majid well to be elected as APC President during the 2014 APC General Assembly in Incheon, Korea. Majid is committed, together with the APC Executive Board and the Management team, to make Asia one of the leading regions of the Paralympic movement, following the motto.
