Oman is stepping up as a global leader in inclusive sailing by hosting the inaugural World Sailing Inclusion Championships from November 30 to December 8, 2025, at Al-Mussanah Sports City. This event will bring together around 215 sailors from all over the world to compete in an environment that truly celebrates diversity and accessibility in sport.

A milestone for inclusion

Being chosen as the host highlights Oman’s strong commitment to supporting athletes with disabilities. Al-Mussanah Sports City isn’t new to inclusive sailing events, it previously hosted the RS Venture Connect World Championship in 2022 and runs SailFree, the region’s first adapted sailing program. It’s also recognized as a Category A High Performance Centre by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF).

More than just a competition

This championship goes beyond racing. Before the regattas begin, the Inclusive Development Program (IDP) will take place, aiming to help participants improve their skills and to support the growth of initiatives like SailFree, inspiring similar programs worldwide.

A symbolic start

The opening ceremony is set for December 3, 2025, aligning with the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities a powerful statement about the sport’s dedication to equality and opportunity for all athletes.

Looking ahead

This event marks a new chapter for inclusive sailing, setting the foundation for future editions and showing that sailing truly is a sport for everyone. With the backing of World Sailing and the dedication of Oman Sail, Oman is becoming a key player in promoting inclusion in sports.Source: Paralympic.org
