ITTF World Para Future Amman Review: Three athletes from Jordan shone in the finals

The ITTF World Para Future Amman 2025 took place at the Al-Hussein Youth City venues from April 13 to April 15 in Amman, Jordan. This is the first Para Table Tennis competition of the year in the Asian region, with 7 of the 13 participating countries coming from the  region: Indonesia, India, UAE, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait and Iran. The Future series is designed is designed as a development point for emerging talents to hone their skills on the international stage and build their ranking but also featured several home country stars.

The first day of competition began with Singles events including quarterfinals in both the men’s and women’s Class 4-5. Asian paddlers featured in four of the six matches, with three of them progressing through to the semi-finals, including Jordan’s Faten ELELIMAT in the women’s event. The Tokyo 2020 Paralympian met with fellow Jordanian Khetam ABUAWAD in the semi-final the next day but it was ABUAWAD who won 3-2 to progress through to an all Asian final. There was to be no home soil triumph for her though as she was beaten by Iraq’s Rusul AL WAELI 3-0.

In the men’s Class 3 event however, host country Jordan was guaranteed success when Osama ABU JAME and Islam AL YAMANI faced each other in the final with ABU JAME beating his compatriot 3-0.

ABU JAME was clearly in great form as on the final day of competition, he paired up with ELELIMAT to face Iraq’s Ali AL SAEDI and Hadeel AL WAELI . The pair from Jordan won convincingly 3-0 making it a competition to remember for them and setting their eyes firmly on a ticket for Los Angeles 2028. There was further success for Asia in the Men’s Doubles Class MD8 final when Adyos ASTAN from Indonesia and Muntadher AL SARRAJI from Iraq beat Awadh ALHARBI of Kuwait, who was competing with Bolawa AKINGBEMISILU from Nigeria.

  • 15-20 Sep: World Abilitysport Games 2025, Jakarta (INA)
  • 18-23 Sep: ITTF World Para Elite Hangzhou 2025 (CHN)
  • 14-19 Oct: ITTF Asian Para Championships, Beijing (CHN)
  • 4-7 Nov: ITTF World Para Challenger Al Ain 2025 (UAE)
