Indonesia has agreed to host the next edition of the Asian Para Games in 2018, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) secretary general Malini Rajasegaran confirmed here today.
Indonesia pledged its commitment through an official letter which was personally handed by its Sports Minister Roy Suryo to APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin here.
“I’m pleased to inform that Indonesia has pledged its commitment to organize the next edition of the Asian Para Games in 2018,” said Malini.
Indonesia last hosted the SouthEast-Asia (ASEAN) Para Games in 2011, held in Solo in Central of Java. Further details on the organisation of the 2018 Para Games have yet to be determined, according to Malini.
“The government of the Republic of Indonesia has agreed to host the 2018 Games in an official letter of acceptance dated October 17, 2014.
APC extends its highest gratitude to the Indonesian government for its commitment towards empowering and enhancing Para Sports and Movement in the region,” said Malini.
Indonesia has also agreed to host the 2018 Asian Games, taking over from Vietnam who backed out from the hosting job in April this year, citing lack of funds.
“We look forward to a successful organisation of the 2018 in Indonesia,” said Malini.
