Day 6 round up of Asian nations at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

  • Double podium sweep for China in the pool
  • JIANG Yuyan adds third gold to her tally

In Para Swimming, China’s JIANG Yuyan added a third gold medal to her games tally in the Women’s 50m Butterfly S6 final and then China’s swimmers had two clean podium sweeps in consecutive events when they won the Men’s and Women’s 50m Backstroke S5 races.   Japan’s SUZUKI Takayuki won bronze in the Men’s 200m Freestyle event so that he now has a medal of every colour from these games.

In the Table Tennis, Chinese Taipei won two medals, doubling their medal tally for the Games. TIAN Shiau Wen won bronze in the Women’s Singles WS10 to add to the silver medal that she won in the Doubles and CHENG Ming Chih won silver in the Men’s Singles MS5 event.

At the Para Athletics, China’s ZHOU Lijuan showed her throwing prowess, winning the Women’s Shot Put F34 event to add to her gold medal won in the Javelin earlier in the week. In addition to Zhou’s medal, China ended day six with gold medals from JIN Hua (Men’s 1500m T54) and ZHANG Liangmin (Women’s Discus Throw F11) plus three silver and three bronze medals.

In Shooting Para Sport, Korea’s PARK Jinho won his second gold of the games in the  R7 Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 beating China’s DONG Chao into the silver medal position.

Iran’s men’s Sitting Volleyball team beat Germany 3-0 in their final pool match to top their group and set up a semi-final against Egypt. In the women’s event, China beat host nation France 3-0. They will meet Canada in the semi-final on Thursday.

The first medals in Wheelchair Fencing were awarded with China winning two (FENG Yanke Men’s Sabre Cat B and GU Haiyan Women’s Sabre Cat A) and Thailand’s Saysunee JANA winning gold in the Women’s Sabre Cat B event.
