Athletes at Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games elect new Athlete Committee members

The Asian Paralympic Committee are pleased to announce the new members of the Athlete Committee who were elected by the athletes competing at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. The election was overseen by the AsPC’s Legal and Ethics Committee with 1034 athletes voting. The successful candidates are as follows:

Ms. Salama Alkhateri (United Arab Emirates) – Para Cycling

Ms. Sareh Javanmardi (I.R Iran) – Shooting Para Sport

Mr. Hiroyuki Misaka (Japan) – Wheelchair Rugby

Ms. Tian Shiau-Wen (Chinese Taipei) – Para Table Tennis

Mr. Wang Yanzhang (China) – Para Athletics

The Committee will now meet to choose the Chairman who will have a seat on the AsPC’s Executive Board, taking over from Jeong Min Lee (KOR) who was elected in Jakarta in 2018.

The AsPC Executive Board may also nominate two additional candidates to ensure diverse representation of sports, gender, and sub-regions. They will serve until the next election which will take place at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games. President Majid Rashed said: “Many congratulations to our new Athletes Committee. We believe that the athletes are the heart of the Paralympic Movement and their voice should be heard. We are delighted that we have such a strong new committee, and that three females have been elected. We look forward to working with them over the next four years.”
