The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) today called for nominations for the Asian Order and the Asian Awards both of which will be announced at a Gala dinner during the APC General Assembly in Bangkok in November.
The Asian Order is the highest order that the APC can bestow and is awarded to any person who has illustrated the APC ideals through his or her actions, has demonstrated outstanding achievement in their sport, or has given outstanding and long-lasting services to the APC cause.
There are six categories for the Asian Awards which will be determined on outstanding performances at any competition since the last awards were presented in December 2014.
- Best Asian Male Athlete
- Best Asian Female Athlete
- Best Asian Team Performance
- Best Asian Youth Athlete (male or female)
- Exemplary Asian Official: awarded to one male or female Asian Official for his/her leadership skills
- Best Photography: awarded to an accredited Asian photographer, who presents the photo best capturing the overall spirit of the competition he covered.
Both the Order and the Awards will be decided upon by the APC Executive Board.
Nominations may be submitted by any of the 42 NPC members as well as the APC Executive Board and members of APC Committees.
The deadline for submissions for the Asian Order is 28 August and the deadline for the Asian Awards is 28 September so that performances at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games can be taken into consideration.
APC President Majid Rashed said:
As we look to grow and strengthen the Paralympic movement in Asia, it is important that we recognise those who have made a lasting contribution to it and those whose sporting performances are inspiring and exciting our region. Along with my Executive Board colleagues we are looking forward to judging what I’m sure will be a strong list of nominations
