The Asian Paralympic Committee has announced it is seeking nominations for its Athletes’ Committee, the elections for which will take place during the Asian Para Games 2018 from October 6-13 in Jakarta.

The nomination process, which opened on July 12, will close on September 6, 2018 following which they will be reviewed by APC Legal and Ethics Committee, headed by Prof. Faizal Abdullah, the Asian Paralympic Committee wrote in its letter to all 43 National Paralympic Committees. Each NPC, who is a member of the Asian Paralympic Committee, can nominate one candidate.

The Athletes’ Committee is designed to ensure that the athletes’ voice is central to the APC’s decision-making process. These five members choose their Chairperson (who attends the APC Executive Board meetings) and Vice-Chairperson at the first meeting and can propose two additional members to be co-opted onto the Athletes’ Committee to ensure that the diversity of the Paralympic movement in Asia is represented.

South Korea’s Ho-Gyoung You is the current chairperson of the APC Athletes’ Committee, formed during the 2014 Incheon Games, which also include top Iranian para shooter Sarah Javanmardidomani as one of its members.
