Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games celebrates 100-day milestone

The countdown to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games reached a major milestone on Sunday as the Organising Committee (AINAGOC) hosted the official 100 days to go ceremony, bringing together government representatives, delegates, guests and members of the local community, and the Paralympic Movement to celebrate the final stretch towards Asia’s biggest Para sport event.

An Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) delegation, led by President Majid Rashed, attended the ceremony alongside representatives from AINAGOC, Aichi Prefecture, the City of Nagoya and key stakeholders.

The event united the local community in celebration of the much-anticipated Games, which will take place this October, creating a festive atmosphere and highlighting the excitement building across Aichi-Nagoya as the region prepares to welcome Asia’s finest Para athletes.

The ceremony featured the unveiling of the official torch, medals, torch relay uniform, and commemorative gifts, symbolising the next chapter on the road to the Games, which will bring together athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees across Asia competing for glory at Asia’s biggest multi-sport event this October. Inspired by the Games’ slogan, “Imagine One Heart,” the medal symbolises people from diverse cultures coming together through sport, reflecting the dedication and perseverance of athletes on their journey to the podium.

The torch relay uniform also embodies the spirit of “Imagine One Heart,” representing unity, connection and hope as athletes, volunteers, staff and spectators come together to celebrate the Games.

Meanwhile, medallists will receive a commemorative gift featuring the Games’ mascot, Uzumin, as a gold, silver or bronze medallist, providing a lasting keepsake of their achievement in Aichi-Nagoya.

Addressing the audience, APC President Majid Rashed highlighted the significance of the milestone and the lasting impact the Games will have on the region.

“We are now just 100 days away from Asia’s biggest Para sport event. The countdown is well and truly underway, and it is almost time for the show to begin.”

Rashed noted that the Games will be the first major multi-sport event held in Japan since the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and emphasised the legacy they will leave for future generations. “The true legacy of the Games will not simply be measured in medals or records. It will be reflected in the stronger, more inclusive society they help create — one where people with and without disabilities are respected equally, celebrated for their unique talents, and given every opportunity to succeed.

“That is the legacy we hope Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will leave, not only for Japan but for all of Asia.”

He also praised the remarkable development of Para sport across the continent.

“Asia is witnessing one of the most exciting periods in the history of the Paralympic Movement. Our athletes continue to raise the standard of competition and inspire millions across the continent.

“In just 100 days, Asia’s finest Para athletes will gather in Aichi-Nagoya, showcasing not only sporting excellence but also the powerful message that Nothing is Impossible.”

Concluding his remarks, the APC President thanked AINAGOC, the Governments of Aichi Prefecture and the City of Nagoya, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to delivering an unforgettable Games. APC Chief Executive Officer Tarek Souei, who also attended the celebrations, praised the progress made by the Organising Committee.

“The Asian Para Games are much more than competition. They are a celebration of courage, resilience and inclusion, which is made possible by the tireless efforts of staff, volunteers, partners and the entire community of Aichi Prefecture and the City of Nagoya.

“Over the next 100 days, the APC will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with AINAGOC and all our partners as we fine-tune every detail and work together to deliver the most accessible, sustainable and athlete-centred Games in our history.”

The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games will be held from 18-24 October 2026, featuring 18 Para sports and bringing together around 3000 athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees. With fewer than 100 days remaining, excitement continues to build across Asia. The 100 Days to Go celebration demonstrated how the Games are already bringing communities together, while setting the stage for a celebration of excellence, inclusion, and the transformative power of Para sport this October.
