Top players from the region including the Paralympic and Asian Para Games champions will be in action at the Bahrain 2025 World Boccia Challenger that gets under way at the Isa Sports City in Manama from 19 April.
77 players from 15 nations including the hosts Bahrain are set to fight out for the top honours in individual, teams and pairs events over five days.
Players from the top Asian nations Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia are expected to dominate the competition with three-time Paralympic champion Worawut Saengampa to headline the field in Manama.
Saengampa, the 32-year-old from Bangkok, Thailand, will be hoping to display great form yet again, and fetch a few gold medals for Thailand in men’s BC2 and BC1-BC2 Team events.
He will be accompanied by Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games bronze medallists Satanan Phromsiri(women’s individual BC2) and Ladamanee Kla-han(women’s individual BC3) in the 10-member team.
Malaysia will bank their medal hopes on Hangzhou 2022 gold medallist Noor Askuzaimey Mat Salim in women’s individual BC4 event, while Angeline Melissa Lawas, a silver medallist at Hangzhou, will be vying for the honours in women’s individual BC1 events.
In men’s events, their Asian Para Games star Chee Hoong Lee should be among the medals in BC2individual category.
The hosts Bahrain will be fielding five players with an aim to provide experience and exposure to their young players in international competitions.
The individual competition starts on April 19 followed by the teams and pairs events on April 22 and 23.
