2014 Incheon Para Games: APC-IAPGOC Ink Deal

The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and the 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games Organising Committee (IAPGOC) today formalised the deal to organize the 2014 Asian Para Games following the APC-IAPGOC Contract Signing ceremony held here today.

Representing APC at the signing ceremony was Secretary-General Ms. Malini, while IAPGOC was represented by its Secretary-General, Hwang Eui Sik. APC President, Dato Zainal Abu Zarin witnessed the signing while IAPGOC International Department Director Woo Hee Chang attended on behalf of IAPGOC President.

The 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games will be held from 18 to 24 October 2014, with 23 sports listed in the Games competition schedule. Athletes and officials from 42 nations affiliated to APC are expected to take part in the week-long Games.

Sports to be included in the 2014 Games are: Athletics, Boccia, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Archery, Badminton, Cycling, Wheelchair Dancing, Rowing, Wheelchair Rugby, Lawn Bowl,  Sailing, Wheelchair Fencing, Tenpin Bowling, Siting Volleyball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball and Shooting.

APC President, Dato Zainal, in his speech said, APC has been making efforts to empower Paralympic movement and sports in Asia. “The Asian Para Games opens up new horizons, and provides opportunities for sports leaders, athletes, officials and nations to enhance the development of para sports in their countries” he said.

“With 23 sports listed, four more compared to Guangzhou 2010, the Incheon Para Games promises to be an even exciting affair. The 2014 Asian Para Games will be significant as athletes prepare themselves, competing and collecting valuable points to be part of the party in Rio on merit,” said Dato Zainal.

APC secretary General Ms Malini, meanwhile said pertinent matters and issues with regards to the organisation of the 2014 Games were resolved in true Asian paralympic spirit, adding that all  preparations for the Games are well underway.

“IAPGOC is making concerted efforts to meet all requirement of the Games. APC and IAPGOC are working closely to ensure that Games’ requirements are fulfilled in the best interest of athletes, officials and Games stakeholders,” said Malini.

Apart from the Asian Para Games, APC’s other major Games include the Asian Youth Para Games, Asia Open Winter Games, various regional Games and individual championships.
