Singapore’s Yip Pin Xiu was once more dominant in the S2 backstroke events, winning gold in both the 50m and 100m races to repeat her double gold tally from Rio and Tokyo.

She began swimming at the young age of five as a recreational activity with her siblings. After being discovered, she started competing in swimming at the age of 12.

The swimmer told the media that this achievement makes her very happy, “Being at the Paralympic Games in Paris and achieving a third consecutive victory and a three-peat, the pressure was very high, and I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way,” she said.

The athlete now has a wide collection of Paralympic medals that continues to grow, with seven golds and one silver. In 2008, she made history in her country, becoming the first athlete to emerge victorious in the 50m backstroke S3.

In 2015, Yip Pin Xiu was reclassified as an S2 swimmer, and since then she has been the champion in the S2 backstroke. The three-time world champion has been reigning on the podium since Rio 2016, in the 50m and 100m events. She also holds the world record with times of 59.38s and 2:07.09, respectively. “There are no obstacles, no impediments. I can do what anyone else can do. It was there (in the water) where I truly found myself,” she affirmed.
