History was made at the Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games as Para armwrestling was included on the sports programme for the very first time.
The debut marked the beginning of a new chapter – one filled with strength, courage, and unstoppable youth energy.
A total of 63 young athletes from 9 countries – Iraq, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, UAE, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Syria – stepped onto the stage to compete, inspire, and show the world the heart of Para sports.
Assen Hadjitodorov, President of the World Armwrestling Federation, praised the passion of the young competitors.
“It’s the first time Para armwrestling is part of the AYPG, and it’s a great moment for Para sports. We are grateful to show our sport at Dubai 2025. The arena is full of young people cheering loudly – it proves we are giving them something powerful and meaningful. Today belongs to Para armwrestling”
He highlighted the sport’s long journey: “We have been organising Para armwrestling for over 25 years. Our last world championship had more than 400 Para athletes.”
When asked about the Paralympics, he spoke with hope:
“It is our dream. Our main goal is to join the Paralympic programme. We will submit our application for Brisbane 2032, and we hope this time we succeed.”
Bilal Kalykov (Kyrgyzstan) – Gold, Men’s Standing 65kg
With pride shining in his eyes, Bilal shared: “I am very happy and excited to win the gold. This is a huge achievement. Patience and hard work are the key to success. This medal is not only mine – it belongs to my parents, my coach, and the entire Kyrgyz nation.”
Aidana Yermekbayeva (Kazakhstan) – Gold, Women’s Standing 60kg

“I feel amazing. The competition was very strong. Thank you to Team Kazakhstan for supporting me. I hope we win many more medals.”
She added: “I was 100% sure I would win. I prepared for a long time and very seriously. This is a historic moment for me and for my country. I came here only to win gold.”
And with a proud smile, she dedicated her victory: “This medal is for my coach, my family, and everyone who supported me in my journey.”
