Kazakhstan get their first medal, China stay on top
Only Para Biathlon medals were contested on day four of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. China’s Mengtao LIU took Gold in the Men’s Middle Distance Sitting event, to add to his Bronze medal won in the Sprint events early in the Games. In the Men’s Standing event, Kazakhstan’s Alexandr GERLITS won their first medal of the Games, taking Bronze.
In the women’s events, China’s Yue WANG secured the only medal for the Asian nations, winning Bronze in the Vision Impaired event.
The Para Ice Hockey got underway again after a day of rest. Korea faced Canada with the winner guaranteed a Semi-final spot. The Canadians proved too strong for Korea however and won 6-0. This means that Korea finish third in group A and will meet the team who have finished group B Italy on Wednesday to in the Qualifying Final play for a Semi-final place.
In Group B, China met Italy. They took a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period, then extended this to 6-0 in the second period which is how the score remained at the end of the match. This result means that China finish top of their group and will now play the Czech Republic in tomorrow’s Qualifying Final.
In the Wheelchair Curling, Korea had two back-to-back games. They overcame Canada in the first 9-4 but unfortunately were not able to keep up this form in their second game, where they lost to Slovakia 7-2. China faced the USA and in a very dominant display ended up 10-2 winners. China now lie in second place in the Standings with four more games to play. The top four go through to the Semi-finals.
At the end of day 4, China still lead the overall medal table, with Japan in fourth place.
Tomorrow will see medals in Para Cross-Country Skiing where athletes from I.R. Iran will also be hoping to get through qualification and into the finals. Para Ice Hockey will see the qualifying finals with both China and Korea in action and hoping to secure a Semi-final place.
