Bangladesh and Maldives mark milestones at Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games

Bangladesh celebrated a proud and historic moment at the Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, winning 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals in their first-ever appearance at the Games.

Promising Para athlete Chaiti Rani Deb was the standout athlete for Bangladesh, winning 2 gold medals in the girls’ T40/41 javelin throw and 100m race, showing strength, speed, and determination.Md Shahidullah (S6) excelled in the boys’ 50m freestyle swimming event (S1–13 multiclass) with a strong and confident performance in the pool. 

Along with the gold medals, Bangladesh added two bronze medals, making the Games an unforgettable moment for the country’s young Para athletes. It was an important step forward for Para sports development in Bangladesh.

The Maldives also had a reason to celebrate in Dubai. Mohamed Rizhan (S10) claimed a bronze medal in the boys’ 50m freestyle swimming event (S1–13 multiclass, ages 12–16). This was the second time the Maldives took part in the Asian Youth Para Games, and the medal showed their growing experience and progress at the regional level.

The Games were dominated by Asia’s leading para sport nations. Uzbekistan topped the medal table with 97 gold, 55 silver, and 35 bronze medals, finishing with 187 medals in total. The Islamic Republic of Iran placed second, winning 61 gold, 78 silver, and 72 bronze medals, for a total of 211 medals. Japan finished third with 39 gold, 25 silver, and 11 bronze medals, collecting 75 medals overall. The Kyrgyz Republic ended the Games in 13th place, winning seven gold and three bronze medals, with 10 medals in total.

While the top teams including Uzbekistan and Iran once again showed their strength, the strong debut by Bangladesh and the steady progress of the Maldives highlighted how Para sports in Asia continue to grow, giving more young athletes the chance to compete, shine, and inspire others.
