The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) is welcoming Paralympic chiefs from across the region to Bangkok for the 5th APC General Assembly which will take place from 28-29 November.
The Assembly follows on from the 15th APC Executive Board meeting which took place on 25th and 26th November. Here the board spent the two days receiving reports from the Asian Sub Regions and Standing Committees, reviewing the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, hearing updates on the forthcoming Games in the region, including the Indonesia 2018 Asia Para Games, and discussing further opportunities to support the membership and build capacity in the region.
The General Assembly is the first under President Majid Rashed who was elected in December 2014 and marks the half way point in his Presidency. At the meeting, the member nations will discuss the APC constitution, receive information on the APC’s finances and receive updates from various Organising Committees for future Games in the region. In addition, representatives from the IPC and other International Federations will attend as observers.
President Majid Rashed said:
At this halfway point in the APC’s Strategic Plan, the results from Rio 2016 demonstrate clear progress from the Asian nations. However there is still much to do. As we welcome our colleagues from the NPCs, we look forward to a productive two days sharing ideas and plans for the continued development of the Paralympic movement in our region
More than 100 attendees including representatives from 31 of the 42 National Paralympic Committees from the region are expected at the Assembly. 150 people are expected to attend the APC Awards Gala Dinner which will take place during the Assembly. Here athletes and administrators who have contributed to the Paralympic Movement in Asia will be honoured.
