Day 9 Summary: Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games

The final medals were awarded on the last day of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games and China won two of them to add to their medal tally. In Para Alpine Skiing Jingyi LIANG won silver in the Men’s Slalom Standing to add to the Gold he won earlier in the Super G and in Para Cross-Country Skiing, China’s team (SHAN, WANG, ZHENG, CAI) took Silver in the Mixed 4 x 2.5km Relay.

This takes China’s total medal tally to a staggering 61 (18 Gold, 20 Silver, 23 Bronze) and puts them first on the overall medal table. This is a phenomenal achievement considering they had only ever won one medal at a Winter Games in the past. Japan finished ninth on the table with seven medals (4 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze) with Alpine Skier Momoka MURAOKA winning four of these for her country. Kazakhstan’s one bronze medal placed them 17th on the table.

The Games will end with a closing ceremony at the Beijing National Stadium where the Paralympic flag will be handed over to the mayors of the next host city Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo who will host the next Games in four years’ time.
