APC President Majid Rashed honoured with ABLF Social Influencer Award
In yet another proud moment for Asian Paralympic family, APC President Majid Rashed was honoured with the ‘ABLF Social Influencer Award’ at the prestigious Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF) Awards Gala, at the Expo 2020 Dubai on Tuesday.
Rashed received the Award in recognition of his role as the President of APC and a UNICEF National Ambassador where he has promoted inclusion across Asia, helped empower children and articulated their rights and needs to decision-makers.
On accepting his award, Rashed commented; “I have never considered myself a social media influencer – I think of my role as ensuring that the voices of the marginalised are heard and social media certainly is a very effective way to do that. In my position as Asian Paralympic Committee President, I am passionate in promoting sport for people of determination. Through this, I believe that we can build a better world where everyone is valued and no-one is held back by their disabilities. My work with UNICEF extends this principle to ensuring that the rights of children are considered and cherished.
“Social media allows us to open up the lives of these groups more widely, to ensure that their voices are heard, and therefore, barriers are broken down and we are left with a more tolerant, understanding society. I am proud that here in the UAE we are leading on this and that our efforts are being seen right across Asia. Thank you again for honouring me with this prestigious award.”
Along with Rashed, 19 other high -profile leaders from across Asia were presented with the iconic diamond-studded ABLF Trophy by His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance.
“Your (Majid Rashed’s) inspiring efforts to use sports as a means to promote inclusion and support children and people of determination, adds to the narrative of the UAE as an inclusive, tolerant nation.
“The prestigious ABLF Social Influencer Award is a tribute to your achievements over the years,” said a statement from ABLF Co-Founder Malini N. Menon.
The ABLF Awards, aimed at recognizing the spirit of resilience in the year 2022, were being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak, and in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Economy and Dubai Cares.
