The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) today announced that Dr Rustam Babayev from Kazakhstan has been appointed to the APC Executive Board with immediate effect.
The appointment comes after an election in which all six National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from the Central Asian Sub Region were invited to nominate candidates and then vote for their representative.
Dr Babayev has a PhD in Business Management and is currently CEO of a financial advisory company in the UAE. He has previously held several senior roles in the area of finance and risk management in the banking and oil sectors. In his election manifesto he outlined his vision to encourage greater collaboration between the NPCs of the Central Asian Sub Region, in order that their potential can be realised and therefore contribute toward the development of Paralympic Movement as a whole. Dr Babayev replaces Mr. Umid Akhmatdjanov from Uzbekistan. He will begin work immediately and will attend his first Executive Board meeting in Tokyo in July.
APC President Majid Rashed commented:
“I warmly welcome Dr Babayev onto the Executive Board. Given the size of our region, having strong sub-regional committees is vital to help us deliver on our ambition to make Asia one of the leading regions for Para-sport. Dr Babayev’s election manifesto outlined his relevant experience and also his commitment and passion for the Paralympic movement. I am sure he will be a really strong appointment and we look forward to working closely with him”
