The Malaysian Asian Youth Para Games Organising Committee (MAYPGOC), held a two-day session Pre-Delegation Registration Meeting 2013 (Pre-DRM2013) here, which was attended by representatives of National Paralympic Committees (NPC) from around Asia.
MAYPGOC is the organising committee for the Asian Youth Para Games 2013 scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur next month from 26 to 30 Oct 2013. The Pre-DRM meetings, which ended today, was held at the official hotel best Western Premier Dua Sentral and attended representatives from 15 Asian NPCs including Bahrain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and hosts Malaysia.
The meetings served to provide the representatives with information that they will need when their respective contingents participate in the AYPG2013 in October. The meetings were chaired by Lt. Kdr (R) Kamaruzzaman Kadir, Executive Vice President of MAYPGOC who shared information about athletes’ entry fees, accreditation, media and broadcasting, anti-doping requirements, technical and sports, and general information for media. At the end of the meeting, delegates were taken on a tour of the competition and training venues as well as the Games’ hotels and accommodation.
“The purpose of the Pre-DRM meeting was held to brief the NPCs about the AYPG2013 and to share with them our progress on preparations, as well as to do an assessment of the official entries. At present we have already received entries from 30 countries,” said Lt. Kdr (R) Kamaruzzaman Kadir in a Press Conference at the end of the meeting.
“This AYPG will set the benchmark for all other such events in the future as this is the first time that it is being organised on such a large scale,” said Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin, Organising Chairman of MAYPGOC.
Dato’ Zainal who is also President of the Malaysian Paralympic Council and Asian Paralympic Committee added, “We hope that Asian countries will use this event as a means to build their youth teams and that young athletes with disabilities will realise their potential for future events such as the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.”
This is part of the athletes’ pathway as they gear themselves towards participating in bigger Games and competitions such as the Paralympic Games in Rio Brazil in three year’s time.
