Elections took place today (24 October) to select the sub-regional representatives who will sit on the Asian Paralympic Committee Executive Board. They will serve a four-year term.
The successful candidates are:
Central Asia
Mr. Farrukh Akhmedov, Uzbekistan
South Asia
Mr. Gursharan Singh, India
South East Asia
Dato Sri Megat D Shahriman Bin Dato Zaharudin, Malaysia
West Asia
Dr. Abdelrazaq Banirasheed, UAE
The election was overseen by the AsPC’s Legal and Ethics Committee, chaired by Keng Chuan Ng. Each candidate was elected by the NPCs in their respective sub-region. There was no candidate elected for East Asia as the threshold for the required number of votes was not reached. In accordance with the AsPC bye-laws, this position will now be appointed by the Asian Paralympic Committee Executive Board.
All of the successful candidates will attend an informal gathering with President Majid Rashed during the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, where the elections took place. Their first Executive Board meeting will be in May 2024, where they will join the other Executive Board members who will be elected during the AsPC’s General Assembly in Riyadh, KSA at the end of November.
