APC Executive Board Hold First Meeting In Paralympic Year

With just 221 days left before the opening of the Paralympic Games in Rio, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) is holding its 13th Executive Board meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The APC is being hosted in Riyadh by the National Paralympic Committee of Saudi Arabia whose President Ahmad Almugairin, will welcome the Executive Board during a short opening ceremony.

After this, on the first day the delegates will discuss the APC’s Strategic Plan which was launched in December as well as reviewing upcoming events, including Rio 2016, the 2017 Asian Youth Para Games and the Jakarta 2018 Asian Para Games.

On the second day the Board will hear reports from the APC Standing Committees and sub regions, then will receive a presentation from Mr. Okeya from Sport for Tomorrow, the initiative of the Japanese government which aims to promote sports to more than 10 million people in 100 nations between 2014 and 2020.

Taking place on the 30th and 31st January, all Executive Board members of the APC are expected to be present, including for the first time Prof. Dr. Faisal Abdullah from Indonesia, a representative of Jakarta 2018 who has just been appointed the APC’s third Vice-President.

Speaking on the eve of the meeting, APC President Mr Majid Rashed commented;

‘I am delighted to welcome my Executive Board colleagues from all over the region to drive forward the activities outlined in our new Strategic Plan. With the Rio Paralympic Games on the horizon, our minds will be focused on how we can begin to fulfil our Vision to make Asia one of the leading regions in the Paralympic Movement.’
